Sweet Birch is a tall tree native to southern Canada and north-eastern USA. The essential oil is steam distilled from the tree bark, which must be macerated and soaked for up to 12 hours before distillation. Sweet birch is used for muscle pain, arthritis, eczema and respiratory problems. Potentially toxic and may cause skin irritation – use with caution and dilute well. Avoid use on children, while pregnant and nursing.
